Born in Kampala, Uganda in 1980, Ismael completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial and Fine Arts (BIFA-Hons) at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda in 2005. Since then, he started a new chapter of a career as a painter. In an impressionistic approach, his work has come to signify the conscience of Uganda and its people. He explores local themes depicting the daily activities like chaos in Kampala, the trends and social problems affecting society. His masterly of media is a combination of oils, acrylics and egg tempera. Of recent he spent time studying animals and their behaviors. His wildlife paintings however have come in different approach, he uses a more mild and monochromatic palette with translucent washes.
He has so far held five solo Exhibitions in Kampala and participated in the commonwealth Art & Crafts Awards 2007.His work also featured at the East African Art Bienalle ,Dar es salam, November 2007.
Through his art, he’s been actively involved with community based projects aimed at helping the disadvantaged. He has also found time to teach the young generation, an initiative he believes would lay a foundation for the future of Ugandan Art.
